Weekend Wins

Congratulations to the Lane Tech Math Team and coaches Melanie Pierce, Ryan McAdam, and Matt Kardon for winning their division at the third regional Chicago Citywide Math League (CCML) competition this past Saturday.  The team was led with a first place finish by the Pre-calculus team and individual first place wins (tied) by Seniors Timmy Li, Ivan Gutierrez, and Phong Bui. Lane swept the rest of the individual Pre-calculus awards with Chandra Patel in 2nd and Magda Bujnowska in 3rd.  The Algebra 2 team was led to a first place finish by junior Edgard Irineo, who won 2nd place individually. The Geometry and Algebra 1 teams came in 2nd place,with Sophomore Guochuan Zhang placing 2nd individually at this competition as well.  The team has advanced to 2nd in our division citywide right now, and the students are working hard to get to 1st!  We are very proud of you!

Congratulations to Lane Tech’s Academic Decathlon team and their coach Paul Stepek who won the annual Lane Tech scrimmage on Saturday.  12 teams participated and Lane outscored its nearest competitors, Lincoln Park and Northside College Prep by over 5,000 points.  Lane Decathletes won 29 of the 63 medals awarded which included 8 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze medals.   Lane also took the top overall individual scores in all three divisions with Fiona McKeon, Mohammad Khan and Khoa Tran winning gold medals.  Jesse Katamay took the silver in his division and Fatima Abusaman took the bronze medal in her division.  Nice job!

Congratulations to coach Chris Marzec and the Lane Tech Hockey Team who improved to 11-1-1 in league play this weekend with a 4-0 win over Kankakee this weekend.  Zach Pierucci and Breydon Marpe lead the offense with 2 points apiece.  Ethan Masunaga also had a point.  The team will play Fenwick this Wednesday.  Way to go!
