Academic Decathlon team takes top 2 spots at the School of Social Justice Competition

Congratulations to the Lane Tech’s Academic Decathlon team which won the 2nd Annual School of Social Justice Academic Decathlon Competition on Saturday.  Our split squad (Lane Myrtle and Lane Gold) took both first and second place.

Lane outscored its nearest competitor, Northside College Prep by nearly 4,000 points and won 23 out of 27 individual medals awarded, including nine in Art, eight in Economics and six in Math.

Lane also swept the top three overall scores in the Honors and Scholastic Divisions.  Honors competitors Rej Pagala, Fatima Abusaman and Amy Argentar won gold, silver and bronze respectively and Juan Domingo, Mohammed Khan and Sydney Somchith matched their sweep by winning the gold, silver and bronze overall medals in the Scholastic Division.  In the Varsity Division, Crystal Pham won the overall silver medal while Trey Fuentes won the overall bronze medal.  Five of the eight overall medal winners are sophomore students competing as first year decathletes, the remaining four are returning veterans.

Congratulations to all the decathletes who participated.  You’ve made Lane and Coach Stepek very proud!
