Lane Day at Wrigley

Don't miss "Lane Day at Wrigley" on May 5th!

Cheer on the Cubs in the bleachers at Wrigley Field on Sunday, May 5 at 1:20 p.m. as our hometown heroes play the Cincinnati Reds.  Tickets are $10 each and will be sold in the school store on Friday, April 26 and Friday, May 3 from 11:00 am - 1 pm. Cash, checks (made payable to Lane Tech PTSO), and credit cards will be accepted. Spend the day at the ballpark with your Lane family and friends!  Thank you to the Chicago Cubs for their generous donation.

GEMS Take a Tour of the Chicago Google Office

On Friday, April 19, GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science) students visited the Chicago Google Office.  Several Google Engineers, including Jen Chen, who organized the event, spoke to the girls about their backgrounds and experiences and why they decided to become computer scientists at Google.  They also described a "typical day" at Google and took the girls on a tour of the entire office!

Panelists listed problem solving, logic, statistics & data analysis, and communication as skills necessary to accomplish their Google projects.  Most did not start off in the computer science fields but ended up at Google because computer science provided them with daily challenges that they found to be extremely interesting and meaningful.  The engineers even encouraged the students to explore programming by playing with code on Google Chrome's built-in Developer tools. The girls had a blast on the field trip and look forward to exploring opportunities in the computer science field.

Parent Survey: My Voice, My School

The parent survey is now open for the My Voice, My School Survey.  Parents have until May 6th to participate.  Parents can participate online or by completing a paper copy at Lane.  This is your opportunity to have your voice heard regarding the education of your child here at Lane Tech!

Lane Play Festival Auditions

Auditions! Students interested in auditioning for The Lane Play Festival should attend an audition meeting Monday, April 22 after school in room 129.

Congratulations to the Lane Tech Math Team!

Congratulations to the Lane Tech Math Team for finishing in the top 5 in the city at this past weekend’s Chicago Citywide Math League Finals.  Over 450 students from 27 Chicago Public Schools competed in the competition, hosted here at Lane Tech.

Lane Tech swept the Algebra 2 competition with Juniors Phong Bui placing 1st, Luis Chavez placing 2nd, and Mateo Muro placing 3rd.  Congrats to all participants and coaches Melanie Pierce and Josh Jeon!

Congrats to the Lane Tech Sinfonietta!

Lane Tech Sinfonietta received a Division I Superior Rating at the IHSA State Orchestra Competition on April 12.  A big CONGRATULATIONS to the Sinfonietta members and Mr. Khuu on a job well done!

Potbelly Fundraiser & Gala Update

Friday is a half day for students.  Juniors will participate in the ACT rally during division.  All other students should report to their normal division rooms.

On Friday April 12, 2013 and Wednesday May 8, 2013,  Lane Tech will follow the district half-day schedule. However, our students will not be dismissed until 12:49 p.m. ( later than previous half days) to ensure they receive credit for a full day of attendance. Dismissing at this time will also ensure that students do not lose credit for minutes missed on previous half days.  If you have any questions about your child's attendance, please feel free to contact the Attendance Office ( 773-534-5410  or 773-534-5407).

PSAE Crash Course

All juniors are invited to participate in a free PSAE Crash Course on April 20th.

It will go from 8am-12pm, giving you an hour per subject (English, Math, Science, Reading).

For each subject, you will spend an hour with a teacher who will answer your questions, remind you of strategies and helpful tips, and go over a few problems with you.

Architecture program reaches new heights!

Congratulations to Jesse Berlanga and our students who were part of the ACE awards ceremony which took place Monday, April 1st at the UIC Forum.  The following four Lane Architecture students received scholarships or paid summer internships through the ACE (Architecture, Construction, & Engineering) mentoring program because of their year long commitment to the ACE program and the development of a culminating Architectural team project.

Spirit Store Deal: Senior sweatshirts for all senior athletes

The PTSO would like to offer the senior sweatshirts to all senior athletes at a discounted rate!  The price for the athletes is $25 (Original price is $45).  Athletes should bring in their jersey, varsity letter, or team roster (to show they are a member of a team) into the school store on Fridays from 11-1.

PSAE Information

All Lane Tech juniors will take the state-mandated PSAE on April 23 & April 24.

These are non-attendance days for seniors, sophomores, and freshmen.  LTAC students are on a normal school day schedule.
