Lane Tech Instant Messaging
As we complete our first half of the school year and welcome in the New Year, I would like to make an annual request to make sure you and your student have signed up for our instant messaging feature to improve communication. The instant messaging feature is particularly important for providing important updates and pertinent information in "real time" to communicate between the home and school. This type of communication will be of particular importance in the event we have an on-campus emergency or important message regarding the operations/safety of our facility, campus, or community.
Recently, we conducted our first lockdown drill of the school year. We will hold subsequent drills during the second-half of the school year. In the event we conduct a lockdown drill, we will send an instant text message to parents and students stating it is only a drill. If we ever have a situation occur that requires a true lockdown of the campus, we need to have a direct method of clearly communicating with parents, students, and staff. Our initial and primary method of communicating will be through our instant text messaging feature, which we are requesting all parents and students register for if you have not already done so. Text messages will be sent to students and parents through the new district communication system. The sender's number will be 23177, 63079, or 53291. The following text message was sent on January 4: Lane Tech will be open for classes on Jan 6 & 7 to ensure that students have a warm, safe place to go. Students unable to attend will be given excused absences. If you did not receive the message, please update your student's parent/guardian contact info by calling 773-534-5651.
We have thousands of parents and students who already registered for the text messaging feature. Unfortunately, student participation has been low and some students have recently opted out. In the event a lockdown occurs during a lunch period, students who are out of the building will need to be notified and the text messaging feature is our most effective way to contact all students. We need all students and parents to consider signing up for the text messaging feature to enhance communication. Please take a moment to discuss this necessity with your child and sign up if you have not already done so.
Safety at Lane Tech is our primary concern. While we hope we never have a true lockdown scenario occur on campus, we would like to ensure we can clearly communicate with all parents, students, and staff in the event we need to inform you of such an event or any drills. My faculty, staff and leadership teams do appreciate your support!
Athletics
Boys Basketball
The team is currently 2-2 in the Red North and we went 2-2 at the renowned Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament. Admir Suljic is our leading scorer at 15 ppg and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Lane Tech Thanksgiving Tournament. Juniors Noah Khan, Vance Rockford and Simon Negash have all had 20 point performances as we have a well balanced scoring attack.
The team is improving and excited to begin the second half of our season. We are home on Monday, January 6th vs. Foreman, Saturday, January 11th vs. Addison Trail (Alumni Night), Monday, January 13th vs. Taft, Wednesday, January 22nd vs. Von Steuben, Saturday, February 15th vs. Jones (Senior Night) and Wednesday, February 26th vs. Loyola.
Girls Basketball
The team is 4 and 10 on the season, but they are a young team with two freshmen on the varsity team. The team finished 9th in the Riverside Brookfield basketball tournament with victories over St. Francis DeSalle and Addison trail. Amy Jensen was named to the all tournament team.
The team has upcoming game at Walter Payton and Northside. The girls play with a lot of heart and never give up.
Boys swimming
Boys are 3-1 in dual meets. The boys are lead by a young talanted group of sophomores mark Gullickson, max Boettcher, Justin Trieu, and Ben Martinez. All four have had personal best times this season.
Cheerleading
The team competed in the Sandburg HS cheer competition and finished in second place. That is a tremendous achievement considering the amount of teams in the competition and cheer talent at the competition. They will compete in the Buffalo Grove cheer competition on Saturday the 11th.
Wrestling
The Lane Tech wrestling team has a dual meet record of 10-5 on the season. At the 26 team Lincoln Holiday Tournament, Lane finished in 5th place. Senior Danny Carlson is leading the team with an undefeated 23-0 record. He was the champion of the Rus Erb tournament and the Lincoln Holiday tournament.
Dance Team
The dance team is in their first competition at the Sears Centre on January 4th.
Boys and Girls Bowling
The boys are competing at a high level in league competition. The boys look to advance in the city and state tournament.
The girls are in first place in league competition and won the Mather bowling tournament. The girls also came in second place in the prestigious Morgan Park tournament. The team is lead by senior Jenna DiCaro and looks to win city and qualify for state.
