CPS Ventra Cards
Beginning this 2015-16 school year, Lane Tech has been mandated by CPS to utilize the NEW Student Combo Ventra ID Card.
Important things to know about the new Student Ventra cards:
The new Student Ventra cards include a student picture and schedule, but should only be used as a transportation card. To reduce the risk of loss, students at Lane should not wear their Student Ventra card as their school ID. Instead, students are expected to wear the school ID provided on the first day of school.
The Student Ventra ID Card is not printed at Lane and may take up to 24 hours to be delivered to Lane. The school ID students are expected to wear on a daily basis is printed at Lane and ensures continuous safety and recognition as a student at Lane Tech for the 2015-2016 school year.
The new Ventra cards will replace the old Ventra cards. The old Ventra cards will be inactivated and students will no longer be able to use the old cards beginning 3p.m. on Thursday, September 10. Funds will be transferred from old to new cards.
The new Ventra cards will be sold for $6. This fee has been established by Omicron, the CPS contractor that manages Verify and Card Orders. Lane must pay Omicron $6 for every card printed.
Obtaining your new Ventra Card:
Ventra Cards will be made available for quick pick up in division on Thursday. Students must bring $6 in an envelope labeled with name, ID, and division number. (Division teachers will not have extra cash, so students must have exactly $6.)
After division on Thursday, students may pick up their Ventra card in the main office. Please note that lines may be long, if you wait to pick up your card in the main office.
Replacing your new Ventra Card:
If you lose or misplace your new Ventra cards, you must go to the main office to order a new card. The new cards are printed outside of Lane and may take up to 24 hours to print.
If you have any questions or concerns, please go to lantech.org and select the Ventra option under the Contact Us tab. All inquiries will be directed to the appropriate offices at CPS and/or Ventra.

Principal Selection Update
Dear Lane Tech Students, Staff, Parents and Community,
The Lane Tech Local School Council is in the final stage of selecting a New Contract Principal. Our final two candidates are Mrs. Kathryn Anderson and Mr. Clifford Gabor. During our first regular meeting of the school year (Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 6:00pm), the LSC will go into closed session to give final consideration to the qualifications of these two candidates. Once back in open session, the name of one or both of the candidates will be placed in nomination. In order for the LSC to award a contract, a candidate must receive 7 affirmative votes. If neither Mrs. Anderson nor Mr. Gabor receives 7 votes, then we will discuss, in open session, our options. Those may include forwarding the names of the 2 finalists to the CEO of the Chicago Board of Education for him to select either one of those candidates, or beginning the whole selection process again.
We appreciate your patience as we make the important decision of who will lead Lane Tech College Prep!

Illinois public institutions to offer college credit for AP classes
Check out the following message from the College Board:
"The Advanced Placement Program® is happy to share with you the tremendous news that Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner last week signed into law HB 3428, legislation requiring all Illinois public colleges and universities to award credit to students who submit scores of 3 and higher on AP® Exams. This applies to entering freshmen at Illinois public institutions of higher education beginning in the fall of 2016.
This new policy will ensure that Illinois students receive the college credits they can earn as a result of their hard work in AP. At a time when AP participation and performance has increased significantly in the state, this law provides more students with a greater opportunity to graduate from college on time.
Our community — including educators, students, and families — played a critical role throughout the legislative process. We appreciate those of you who contacted elected officials expressing support for this important initiative. Your voices clearly were heard, as reflected in the overwhelming bipartisan support the bill received.
We are also grateful for the leadership of the bipartisan group of public officials who worked for this result, including Governor Rauner and the bill's authors: Representatives Carol Sente (Vernon Hills) and Mike Fortner (West Chicago) and Senator Pat McGuire (Crest Hill).

Change in Start Time
Dear Students, Parents and Staff:
Chicago Public Schools has reconsidered the changes in the student transportation schedule. All of Lane Tech College Prep and LTAC students' school day will begin at 8:00 am and end at 3:15 pm. The new schedule does not include division and students will not be dismissed early on Wednesdays.
