Lane Buddies Prom

On Friday, March 15, Lane Tech hosted its 2nd annual Lane Buddies Prom.  Lane Buddies was started last year by Ms. Murphy and Ms. Ronkoske.  The club was previously affiliated with the international Best Buddies organization, which promotes friendships between people with disabilities and those without.  Lane Buddies follows the same mission but meets the needs of Lane Tech and its diverse students.

For various reasons, many of the seniors in the Special Education program are unable to attend the annual senior prom, such as mobility and accessibility.  The Lane Buddies Prom gives students with disabilities the opportunity to participate in this meaningful high school tradition.  By bringing prom to our students, it ensures that all students are able to participate, attend with a date, dress up, take pictures, and enjoy the experience!

This year's Lane Buddies Prom was Grammy-themed, complete with a red carpet and VIP photo wall.  The Lane Tech Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble even provided live music for the occasion.  Students wore corsages and extravagant sunglasses and crowned a prom king and queen.

Murphy promises to make next year's Lane Buddies Prom bigger and even better!
