We would love for you to post on social media or send to Mrs. Hanly at schanly@cps.edu to send out in the student news for all to see! The frames will be in the main office, by the security podium in the lunchroom, and by the security desk by Door M. #ChicagoStandUp Rally:
- The fourth annual #ChicagoStandUp Rally to stand up to the gun violence in our city is set for Sunday, November 19th beginning at 10:00am here at Lane Tech. The rally will begin with a general assembly in Gym 1 and will conclude with a march around campus to spread awareness to our community that Lane Tech takes a stand against gun violence.
Here is a brief background on the rally:
Background:
On October 17th, 2014, Coach Nick LoGalbo’s cousin, Darrin Hollingshead, was shot
senselessly through the head and the spine. Darrin fought for his life and it has been
a miracle to see his progress over the past three years.
In November 2014, we organized a large rally with the support of former Chicago
Bulls (currently with the New York Knicks) star Joakim Noah and his organization
(The Noah’s Arc Foundation). We had hundreds of people gather to offer their
support to stand up to violence. We had some outstanding speakers in the
gymnasium and we then marched with signs in solidarity all wearing our shirts to
fight for our cause. After our first rally, we ended up on the news and the word
began to spread about our mission. We are excited to continue our efforts for the
fourth year in a row on November 19th.
Darrin is the inspiration for this rally, which now serves as a conduit of all “peace
agents” in our city working to put an end to gun violence. The Lane Tech community, the CUAV (Coaches United Against Violence) and the participants of The Battle of
the Bridge Tournament will stand behind the #ChicagoStandUp campaign to end
gun violence every year and will work to raise awareness.
We will have our on-line shop open beginning today (10/25) and ending next Wednesday (11/1). There will be no gear available at the rally so this will be your only opportunity to buy the gear for the rally. If you place an order, your order will be available for pickup in the athletic office beginning November 15th.
