Cold Weather Makeup Days

To ensure students receive the valuable instructional time that was intended for February 2 and 19,CPS has made changes to its academic calendar for this school year without disruption to graduation schedules or the start of summer school.  These changes are as follows:
-Thursday, June 18, which was scheduled to be the first day of students’ summer break, will now be a regular attendance day for all students.
-Friday, June 19, will now be a regular attendance day for all students.
-Students’ summer break will begin on Monday, June 22.

GEMS takes a crash course with the University of Michigan

GEMS was proud to welcome a few University of Michigan students that shared their knowledge of engineering concepts and principles.  Girls were split into several groups where they designed a structure made up of a couple basic materials (pipe cleaners, aluminum foil, tape, etc.) to keep a raw egg from crashing on a model car and crash course. Everyone learned about the steps they can take to find solutions to problems and discovered that engineering is what makes the earth go round and is critical in problem-solving skills. With a few popsicle sticks and some imagination, teams created thoughtful designs and are now on their way in becoming the next generation of successful and bright-minded engineers.

Alpha-STEM Senior selected to attend Google High School Symposium

Congratulations to Marcelina Puc, who has been selected to attend the Google High School Symposium on April 24th for her biochemistry experimental investigation of cancer cells titled: Mechanism of Apoptotic Action of Colloidal Silver and Bromelain on PC12 & HeLa Cells. Thank you to all teachers who have supported Marcelina in her research!

Interested in Studying Abroad?

The English Department Study Abroad Program will travel again in the summer of 2016!  If you will be a sophomore through senior in the summer of 2016 and would like to travel to Italy, please come to the student informational meeting on Thursday March 5 at 3:30pm in room 113.

March LSC Meeting

This month's LSC Meeting will take place on Thursday, March 5.  From 5-6pm, the meeting will be a closed session.  The meeting will be open to the public beginning at 6pm.  Visit the LSC page to view a copy of the agenda.

Weekend Wins

Congratulations to our HS and LTAC Science Olympiad teams who each competed and placed in the top three at Saturday's CPS Regional.

The LTAC team won first place at the CPS Science Olympiad Regional, beating the second place team by 40 points! The top 5 teams were: 1- LTAC, 2- Volta Elementary, 3- Whitney Young AC, 4- LaSalle II Elementary, 5- Edison.

The LT high school team earned third place overall. The top 5 high school teams were: 1- Walter Payton, 2- Whitney Young HS, 3- Lane Tech HS, 4- Jones College Prep, 5- Northside College Prep.
Both teams will be moving on to the state competition at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana on April 18th!

Congratulations to all students and coaches Scott Vessalo and Emily Paulson, who also hosted the event.


This past weekend the Lane Tech Varsity Debate Team competed at the 2015 Mayer Brown Urban Debate League Nationals Qualifier.

Aaron Phalin and Joel Veizi were among 20 selected top debaters - out of 1,400 Chicago Debate League debaters, from 77 different CPS high schools - chosen to compete.

Aaron and Joel finished in third place overall, and both students received top ten speaker awards.  Congratulations to the students and their coach Andy Fine.
